This was an opponents problem.

You reach the infererior contract of 5♦ (partner had tried to play in 3NT). Opponents were silent throughout.

You get the lead of the ♥3-6-9-J. What now?

Do opps paly 3/5th or 4th. What was the table action on the heart lead (how fast was the 9 played?)

Opps (us) play 4ths from length. East played the ♥9 smooth as silk (as I always do :)).

In that case I'm not worried about a heart ruff. I would hook the spade (a freebie). If this wins, i can cash the DA, cash the SA pitching a club, and then give up a diamond and heart.

If it loses, I will fall back on a diamond finesse (simple I know).
