Secondary question: Has anyone here played Mao and had it not end in a fight when different people play by different rules?

Um, isn't the title already a spoiler? Let's see how non-specific I can be.

In our games, we appointed a rulesmaster, before the game started, in any situation where this might apply. Her set was supreme (FMVOSupreme, of course). Of course, the only way you learned whether the rule you thought applied did was when you tried to enforce it and someone else disagreed...

The rulemaster, eventually, would make a "correct judgement" on the enforcement of the rule (through the usual means). In case of, well, later, it could be explained to her (through the usual means) that, well, it's later.

Never seemed to be a problem (except for the griping about stupid rulesets, and gameplaying to rectify the "stupid ruleset". On the other hand, isn't that part of the fun?)

No, but I do know one of the regular posters here, mrdct, played against Deng Xiaoping in Beijing in one of those simultaneous world-wide bridge tournaments around 1991.

It's a good story too. I think he was forewarned not to double the Chairman.
