Its not great but a simple correction to 4S is all that is reasonable since South didn't cue diamonds so two losers there in either trump suit and at least also probable heart loser in a much better notrumps contract (not so obvious)

Only because the average is extremely low. A little choosiness of partners puts GIB to shame.

Hi,

no - 4S instead of 4H is normal.

But it is not clear, if 4H is normal, it may or may not be
constructed as a splinter - not really, but given the hand,
what is wrong with a slower seq.

Bridge is a game of partnership. So to fairly evaluate gib, we can only compare the partnership strength. IMO, gib partnership is much weaker than most of the set partnerships, playing on BBO. So the claim that gib plays equal or better bridge than average bboer isn't very solid IMO.
