Wow, Bridge is cheap in NZ!
Good start to my games here with a 65% win last night, playing SA with some funny twists.

Here's one hand...

3NT, which may well be a transfer to 4 ;)

4. I'd want more tricks in my own hand (say, AKQxx in diamonds) to bid 3N.

Definitely 4. This is a good B/I problem though. 3NT will usually play worse than 4 if partner has the hand he has already shown.

Does it matter if 2 promised 6 hearts, or would you bid the same way if 2 is a catch-all?

I don't think the precise definition of 2 affects the 3 call very much. Partner needs a pretty good six card suit to bid them three times when he has 3, 3 and 3NT as alternatives.

If 4 is wrong I'd want partner to buy the drinks.

And yes, playing in NZ, I haven't dealt a hand at a club in over 7 years. I find it very strange to read comments from folk at large tournaments in North America not getting pre-dealt hands.
