(1) What do you think about 2 vs. DBL?
(2) Given that I overcalled 2, should we have found our spade fit or was it reasonable to bid to 5?
(3) Should I have gotten the spades right or was my play in the spade suit reasonable?

1. I like 2C.

2. Should 4S show 5 spades? I think it is too infrequent, you'll often want to bid 4S here with a 4-6.

3. Your play looks good, because south might have found the spade ruff with a singleton. Of course the bidding argues for a singleton (a minimal 2-3-6-2 is less likely a 4H bid) but I think the play clue is stronger.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

East to blame for losing sight of the suit .
If he had enough to bid 3C, he had enough to bid 2S instead.

But would North double with 2542?

I like 2 followed by 4. I disagree that East should bid 2 - for me that is a constructive bid while 3 is merely showing curtesy support. I think the play in the spade suit is reasonable but probably anti-percentage against decent opponents (weak opponents probably give the game away holding the jack when the 10 is led) since A8/KT875/QJxx/32 just does seem to fit the auction, and that is essentially what we are playing North for when going up with the queen.

At the time I thought 2 was obvious but double is growing on me. I think East can only bid 2 with such limited values if he is a passed hand. I would expect 4 to be 4-6 although I may be influenced by playing specific two-suited overcalls that remove the likelihood of 5-6.
