Don't Armenians/people from Azerbaijan hate Russians lol? It's not like Aronian is russian, don't understand the conspiracy talks.

Sick day though wow.

Edit: Even in the press conferences, the only hint of dislike I've gotten from any two people are Kramnik and Aronian.

Sick read on Kramnik pre tourney btw gwnn. About halfway through I was thinkin what a genius I was sayin Aronian >>> Kramnik, this collapse and tilt by Aronian has been pretty amazing. Pretty clear chess players tilt lol.

Vladmir "happy with a draw" Kramnik. lol So refreshing to see him gunning from the beginning with the black pieces. Aronian was just outplayed today. Yesterday was a clear case of tilt though with those bizarre pawn pushes.

Yesterday was super clear tilt, but the most recent game I feel like the endgame was tilt, he was tryin to do too much when he had an easy draw. Maybe he was just "swinging" due to tournament conditions, but I feel like at that level they can calculate that the ending he played was just lost so it's not exactly like bridge swinging going from a lock draw to lock loss.

All this said I'm basically a novice at chess so I could be way off.

Carlsen was the pre-tournament favourite because of his rating and the many round-robin tournaments he'd been winning.

Kramnik is winning and he is winning because he is the leader (with half a point for two games and probably a better tiebreak).

JLOGIC: the conspiracionists are mainly whining about Svidler Radjabov (I don't think Azerbaijan really hates Russia) and Grischuk, but except for Grischuk's strange blunder Kramnik outplayed them all. In fact Kramnik outplayed Carlsen as well and several others in the first half of the tournament but never quite got there.

Yep, that must be it.

And I don't think Aronian was trying to win that position when he played g6 instead of h6, he just probably thought it would come to the same thing (I still don't really see it as a blunder but OK they are 2800 and I 1700).

fair enough...you dont understand the question

who is winning and why are they winning and who was the fav?

I was not asking about the aronian position. to be honest I have no idea who aronian is.\ or what his position is.

I concede all of that to you.

And it's a story because at half time it was:

1-2 Carlsen, Aronian 5/7
3-4 Kramnik, Svidler 3.5/7

And now it's

1 Kramnik 8/12 (after dropping only one draw in round 8)
2 Carlsen 7.5/12
3 Aronian 6.5/12

That is pretty awesome, especially if you think of how many people think Kramnik can only draw and how rarely you can win with black in top-level chess. It's also pretty awesome because it looked like for a long time yesterday that it was gonna be Carlsen at 8 and Kramnik at 7.5 instead, changing the odds and the tiebreaks dramatically. However, both Aronian and Carlsen played poorly, leading Kramnik to win instead of draw and Carlsen lose instead of draw. Also Carlsen had not lost a game of classical chess since October 2012 which is damn long ago. So are we allowed to talk about this or not?

Ah silly me, if Carlsen ties Kramnik he will likely have more wins (unless Kramnik loses and wins in the last two games - unlikely). But Kramnik will probably get 1.5 or even 2 out of the last two, a tall order for Carlsen.

Ignorant question: will they know the state of the other games during the final rounds?

It's also a story because Carlsen lost as WHITE to a guy who has lost 4 times on time this tourney and is one of the lowest rated players in this tourney. To put this into perspective, Carlsen lost only twice last year all year.

On the same day, Kramnik won as BLACK against the world #2 or world #3 (not sure which of kramnik and aronian is higher) who is over 2800 rating.

The odds of these two things occurring in the same round is so astronomical that it's pretty beautiful.

So if they are tied before the last round, Kramnik has a drawn position, he should try to complicate matters just so Carlsen doesn't know Kramnik will draw. Carlsen either has to waste energy analyzing Kramnik's position, or may think he has to play for a win...

You are underestimating how well/quickly they can analyze a position just looking at it imo. If it is basically a dead draw Carlsen will see that in about a second. If Kramnik actually complicates it so much that it might not be a draw anymore, well...it might not be a draw anymore.

That sounds clever but in practice they prefer to just play as well as possible on their own board I think.
