I read somewhere that a substitute player may complete a hand if one defender has to leave before completion of the hand (e.g. after it's been bid). Anyone know about the requirements for such a situation?
Thanks
Fifth Guy.

The only mention of substitutes in the Laws is Law 4:

Quote

In pair or team events the contestants enter as pairs or teams respectively and retain the same partnerships throughout a session (except in the case of substitutions authorised by the Director).

I don't think any details are in the Laws about when the Director should allow this, so it's left up to the RA and/or Tournament Organizer.

The requirement is authorization by the TD, subject to regulations published by the RA and/or TO, if any.
