Playing 2/1, this is your first time playing, you haven't had much discussion, but partner is competent. You haven't noticed anything to make you believe that partner is particularly conservative or aggressive.

3 by the opponents is weak.

This is matchpoints.

I voted for double, but can't really see where this gets us. It works if and only if partner has 4H. Any other time this gets us too high, with almost half our hand in opponents suit.

I'd like to change my vote to pass.

With hooks through west likely working, I take an optimistic view and try 3NT.

Nasty. Too much to pass, no idea where to go if anywhere. Must be double and hope pard knows.

I voted double (takeout) but in my partnership it just shows "cards" and I have 13 of them.

My reflex was definitely Hamman but X could be very right especially if partner can pass, we could be grabbing 300 against no game our way. I think pass is bad, +50 or +100 will not be a good score.
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

I would be pretty sad if I couldn't make a lead directing call white at matchpoints for fear of being hung out to dry by the world's crappiest 11-count.

Especially when you are probably to be on lead.

I doubled, partner passed, we got to write down -530 (2 clubs cashed, but opener was able to pick up diamonds for no loss, having AQT behind my KJ9. Pard had something like xx Axx xxx AKTxx. Winning action is to either pass or bid 3N if you think they won't X, or if they will double but will defend poorly.

So you had been the ten of diamonds away of a great result, despite the fact that partner had a 2335 hand for his 2 bid and his final pass?

So double must be an overwhelming MP-winner in the long run.
Kind Regards

Tell your partner not to make a 2/1 overcall on minimum weak NT hands? Even xx Jx Axx AKxxx offers pretty reasonable play for game. xx jx Ax AKxxxx is basically cold for 3N, and there is still no guarantee that you are beating 3Sx.

Still I have sympathy for all three actions.
