3S was self-alerted as being competitive.

Why didn't I double at my last turn?

I didn't bid 3, but my guess is it was probably because of the disparity in length and strength of red suits. If you catch partner with 4-4-2-3 distribution, you'll probably get to 3 which may not play well with your weak trumps.

Well, I would not, because partner would scramble 2N-3C-3D.
In any case, in the actual auction we seem to have an obvious pass. I have no reason to think they are going down, and I have no reason to think we can make something at the 4-level. Plus everyone is vulnerable at BAM.

Having chosen this route I agree it's an obvious pass and expect to halve the board unless they doubled at their 2nd turn at the other table which could go either way. I've made my basket and put all my eggs in it.

Pass. You've bid your hand and the opponents have competed to 3 . Partner hasn't supported or made a negative double, so it may be the opponent's hand.

At MPs/BAM, -140 may not be great, but blindly bidding on is more likely to get you the kiss of death -200 or more in 4 something doubled.

OTOH, partner may hold a smattering of cards that allow you to go plus. Doubling at this point is a bit of a crap shoot. It's right if your partners don't compete past 3 and 3 goes down only 1. But it costs you big time whenever 3 makes.

Without any evidence to feel that there is a chance to beat 3 , I think just sitting for 3 is right.

I agree with 3, now i pass

This was the entire hand.

If North had AJ I don't think he could go wrong. But as South has two honors, it requires careful play. The bidding was identical at the OT except for the double and declarer made 9 tricks. Not sure if it was because of the double, declarer who's known to be a very fine player went down 2.

Pass.

Double makes only sense, if I believe, that we can make 3D, and I have to protect our plus
score.
That we can make 3D is not clear at all.

Playing some sort of good/bad 2NT to differentiate between a serious and a nonserious 3D
bid may have helped to wake partner up.
