What is the average hand(tricks/points/losers/whatever) you assume your partner has when bidding goes:(4X)-4M.
I had a problem with this type of a situation today in (4)-4. My partner bid 5, which is slam invitational, and i decided to accept holding
AKxxxxxx;x;Qx;xx, 6 went down 1.

The deal in question is imps - white to white. But the question is more meant as a generic one so it should not matter to much

Maybe it makes a difference in guessing how good a hand you have for your 4 bid?

While you have an 8 card suit, with 5 clear cut losers in the plain suits, and a possible trump loser depending on partner's trump support, this hand resembles a 4 opening preempt. I think if partner had a hand where 6 was going to have a good play, they would have tried 4NT RKC, or cue bid if looking for a heart control. Without anything in the minors, I pass.

You should not post the actual results because it tends to bias the results.

In a crammed auction I would have thought a quantitative noise was extremely useful and high frequency compared to asking for some specific feature which I assume is the alternative.

Do you have some other way to simply invite slam?

P failed to use rkc (4N) so the 5s bid invite means that
they have something to worry about besides just top trump
honors. I am encouraged by my singleton heart and really
really really encouraged by my 8 card suit headed by AK so
all that is left is imagining what p might have for their
invite missing the trump AK. If p had something like
xx xxx AKxx AKxx this would make an interesting 5s bid since
they are both worried about heart control and a possible trump
loser. The problem is that p might bid the same way with a
singleton or a void in spades. Slam looks decent if they
have 2 spades but not so good if they have 1 and bad if they
have zero.

Preempts work keep using them because I would probably
pass 5s with this particular hand once I start picturing what
minimum 5s bid might look like and be really wrong if p has
2 spades on that particular hand sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-
