Oooh, I like this!
IIRC Hardy wanted to keep 2NT as the GF because that's what people are used to doing. Rosenkrantz made a similar argument in one of his Romex books. But if you can remember it, more efficient use of the bidding space is better.
3NT Response to 1H/1S Opening What are my options? Which is best?

you could also use a transfer splinter so that there is always at least one bid below game where opener can suggest their interested in slam.
so over 1♥:
3♠=♣ splinter
3N=♦ splinter
4♣=♠ splinter
4♦= preemptive raise to 4♥ with defense or something of your choosing
and over 1♠:
3N=♣ splinter
4♣=♦ splinter
4♦=♥ splinter
4♥= natural preemptive or something of your choosing

Meckwell treatment which I like: ~12-15hcp, any 4333, choice of games (so you are quickly in 3NT with 5332 opposite 4333).
In Poland the most popular way is to play 3NT as 4M-1 splinter to have more space.
I don't have much preference. It comes up rarely anyway.
