it looks from Giangibar's examples as if they can be abused when the suits are known, too, since the very first hand given doesn't appear to match the published agreement.

You are absolutely right... Actually, when in third seat and green VS red, we do open some absolutely awful hands. It still seems to be working, even in fields which are not that weak, as I stated before. I'm now trying to collect as many Frelling deals as possible from my past experience, so to build a database. I'm also trying to involve my partner Stalemate in this conversation, but it seems like he's having some trouble connecting to the forums.

Well, you can generate a zillion deals and check in what percentage you are safe (read: reachable 8 card fit or 23+ hcp).

This will give you a raw estimate of the system's soundness. Except perhaps for that whacko 2 bid that gives me the creeps :D

Your definition of safe seems very restrictive

7 card fits often play quite well at the two level, especially when the opponent's don't know the extent of your fit.
Moreover, your fit is assuredly safe so long as the opponent's have overcalled.

Theory's grounding in flawed assumptions aren't worth that much...

Necroing the thread, the responses here: http://www.chrisryal...wo/frelling.htm suggest that opening with 6 card suits is fine (so 4 diamonds and 6 spades).

I was quite surprised at that. I was expecting a normal 4/4-5/5 job. Does anyone have experince with the cost/benefit of possible 6/4 openings?
