I think there are several problems in this hands.
1- 3 as a new suit is not nonforcing? I disagree.
I think 3 is forcing,if not, this is caused by doubler is mistakenly served as a captain

2- After Gib S's double,Gib S bids own 2 suit,2 says " 3- ,rebiddable ,18-21TPs"
But actually Gib S has only 17hcp in this 2542 shape.
I think this bidding is non-standard.
First double then bidding suit show:
1) exact 19+hcp with 5-card+.
2)18hcp with decent suit and shapes.
Orelse,doubler can't be served as a captain !
So I have to say that TPs is inaccurate.

I think both robots bid reasonably. 3d maybe ought to be five cards and arguably it would be better to raise hearts but that is hardly perfect either. Presumably north found its hand too strong to pass and plays 3c as a gf.

3 should be nf I think, with a gf hand and the same shape North could bid 3.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Much prefer 1H-then-X with that south hand, rather than X-then-2H. It's not a great 17-count and only has a 5-card suit.

As for 3D... well as responder is limited, it's reasonable to say that 3D is NF (as helene says you could bid 3C instead), and I agree with South's pass.

Actually 3 or 3 as final contract is bidding too high, nobody can get 9 tricks.
Now,do you think south is so strong enough to keep a final contract in safety in 3 level?
So south as doubler can't be served as a captain.

17hcp with 5422 will only cheat partner since that is not real strong hand.

It's just unlucky that there's a 5-0 diamond break. 4-1 or 3-2 and it would have been OK. I agree that South should just overcall 1 instead of double, double first should be a stronger hand.

Not quite sure what you mean by "served as captain". Language issue. Perhaps you mean that you think South has assumed captaincy of the auction?

In this auction, really nobody has asserted captaincy. 1 is limited, descriptive, non-forcing, 2 is also limited & non-forcing. At that point there is no "captain". People can just bid whatever they think is appropriate. 3 should be non-forcing because it's limited by failure to jump or cue bid on the first round. North also had the option to pass 2. But he has enough strength that 3 is OK (game might still be possible), it's just kind of unlucky. But at that point no one is captain because no one is making forcing unlimited bids.
