I'll not try to claim that opening 2N is a long term winning action in a robot tourney. My personal opinion is that it is, but that is not something that I am interested in arguing and it is not the point of the hand
I am less sure that accepting the transfer is a winning action, and when North passed it I was rather worried.
But then East came to the rescue. Interesting strategy, that: Contesting a partscore at the 4 level vul v non-vul, with a 20 count on your left who has not super-accepted Spades. Methinks he runs with the wolves of the Carpathians.
Anyway, the real point of interest is what South should do over the double, which is where a bit of experience of GIB comes in. I considered it more than likely that if I passed then 4D would come back to me. I could just bid 4S straight a way, or gamble on the double of 3S being passed out. But then I remembered past hands. Passing MAY get to play in 3SX, but redoubling is a surer route to playing there.
