2D-4D
I agree Gib is worth a game try here but 4♦?
Auction was P-P-P-2D-P-4D.
Making 5♦ as a passed hand is near impossible. 3N is the game to look for first.
In any case any bid I assume is forcing, surely a game try below 3N is in order.

The explanation there is very clear. 3 top honors 6 card suit. I don't know how Gib evaluates the contract or scores, but it doesn't take a super computer for North to calculate 9 tricks at NT if a trick is made in hearts, and no game if there is no stopper. Does Gib use Ogust? Really the best and only solution is 2 hearts inviting game at 3NT if hearts are stopped. However this is the partner, system and convention you get to endure here. Surely if you going to have a system with such a controlled bid in it like that, then you need a convention to find the right contract. The purpose of that limited opening bid of 2 diamonds was to find 3NT if available, and play in the minor if not, without overbidding. As steve says, what good does 4 diamonds help anybody? Thanks Partner.

4D wasn't a game try, it was pre-emptive.
GACK- I wasn't really interested in game. just wanted shut EW out of bidding.
The Law-are opponents really going to bid past 3D after having passed.
Anyway-the Law doesn't work.

After 3♦, a takeout double by East doesn't seem out of the question to me, and 3♥ and 3♠ are both cold (in fact a bit unlucky not to make 4♠).
Even if north knew you held the maximum AKQ diamonds and K hearts, 3nt is still quite flimsy, so I'm not sure I disagree with GIB here.

I don't like 2♦ with GIB's definition of 2♦. It seems much too strong for the definition and 3NT seems like a possible/likely makeable contract against GIB (especially with a diamond lead )
Against GIB, I'm not that worried about competitive bidding.

I think the problem here is that GIB with 10 trumps between the two hands cannot think anything but trump suit.
The subtlety of exploring a possible 3NT contract instead of 5 of a minor is lost on it.

Yes but as manudude03 pointed out GIB wasn't exploring for game
