Problem with one Bridgemate keypad last night changing (batteries)

I had a problem with a Bridgemate keypad at our club last night. Unfortunately all the Bridgemate experts in the club were absent.

We were playing an 8 table 24 board Howell and I was sitting North at table 6.

The computer was set up properly and we were ready to go.

1. I pressed OK and got a message to change the batteries.

2. I changed the batteries immediately and got a black display. No matter what I did I failed to lighten the display.

3. We then changed keypad 15 to 6.

4. When I pressed OK to enter the details I was told that the system had not been activated.

5. We ended up using paper score sheets for table 6 and got a result for the night.

I would appreciate any help in case the same thing occurs again.

I know a tiny bit about Bridgemates, but clearly not nearly enough.
