I login and click "Casual".
On the next screen I click "Start a table"
On the next screen where I can reserve seats, there are 2 buttons
"Start Table - Relaxed Game"
and
"Start Table - Competitive Game"

What is the difference? We have always clicked relaxed but what would be different if we clicked competitive?

Underneath the first 'Start a table' there is Relaxed Bridge Club and Main Bridge Club. These are the 2 locations your table will be placed depending on which button you press. It is probably worth watching a few tables in the main bridge club and observing the temperment of the players. When BBO kicks one of your group off due to problems, the type of player you get landed with in their place will depend on which club you are in.

There is no functionality difference between the two areas.

A long time ago BBO just had one area for play, the Main Bridge Club. It was a real mix between people wanting a friendly game, those seeking a more challenge game, and the Wild West.

In an attempt to separate these, the main club was split into the Relaxed and Competitive areas.

I believe that board comparisons are only made within the same club, but I doubt you'd notice any difference in your results in either area.

I don't work for BBO and any advice is based on my BBO experience over the decades
