To me, a decision that:
  • the chance that partner opened 3 second unfavourable won't be on Q-high is very low;
  • but it's highly unlikely that partner opened with AKxxxxx;
  • but even if he did, he wouldn't have any outside K;
  • and likely not anything that would make a good squeeze chance (Q and a fourth diamond I guess, but isn't AK-to-7, Qx and a void too much for 3?)
  • and our system can't find the J;
  • and even if 7's there, I'm going to get 70% for 1460 (more than 70% if 1460 requires the squeeze!), after all this isn't day 3 of the BRP, it's a field that contains both eagles123 and ERod;
  • and I expect to average 65% on the rest of the boards - I expect maybe 5% if we're in 7 and the squeeze doesn't work;

why would I not just blast what I think I can make rather than pinpoint the defence (if there is one) looking for 7?

If Mr Rodwell's partner knows how aggressive he is why the hurry to bid 6, why not bid RKCB first?

Maybe he was playing with a client and didn't have firm agreements about what 4 or 4NT would be over 3? Or maybe he just wanted a fast round for a smoke break. It's not like he's playing a BB here.
