There were already several GiB conventions I reluctantly avoided playing due to the lack of real follow ups, but not one so vital as takeout double.
Is it just that I have recently noticed it, or has the "evolution" of GiB into GIBBO led to this perverse habit of making a cue bid of opponents' suit with borderline strength and despite holding 4 cards in an undeclared major?
See this board.
Why is it asking for direction when it already has one?
What was wrong with 3 ?
I may be ingenuous in risking 2NT (the explanation offered to opponents is truncated for some reason), but why accept an invite to 3NT if you have nothing more than you already declared?
Why then run to 5 clubs rather than 4 hearts, even if I was Australian rather than Italian?
Were there really simulations that suggest that 5 scores less badly than 4 and if so, why does a paying customer not have access to statistics?
