In a few tournaments I have been logged off during the tournament because I have missed the change of hands due to inactivity.
However, I am sure that when a new hand is dealt the system pings a sound to let you know.
Occassionally I might need to look away from the BBO screen, to do something else on my computer, but I always keep my headphones on so I can hear the ping.
But a few times I never hear any ping.
Would this be my computer or does the ping not always sound?
Thanks

There's a "heartbeat" ping that happens between your browser and BBO. This was implemented back in the day. Now, browsers are "smarter", and hibernate (or even remove from memory) tabs that are inactive.

So there's an issue where you switch to another tab, the browser inactives BBO, the heartbeat ping doesn't return, and you get logged off - *before* the hand's over and the new hand shows up. Guess what? No sound on "new hand" because you're not at the table any more.

If you're one of the "full-screen" types, even switching windows so the browser isn't "in focus" can trigger this. Otherwise, another browser *window* (on the other half of that screen or another screen if you're dual-monitored) tends to avoid the issue.

Wow, thank you for explaining that.
Ok, no more 2nd screen watching, I will stay glued to BBO screen, although I will look at the new split screen notification i got from google yesterday.
Good timing perhaps!
