I just finished subbing in a tourney. At the end two things happened. We were listed as the winners, and my partner told me I played pretty well for a 299er. I seem to have missed that portion of the description.

When I was in college I used to occasionally box with friends. At a gym once I agreed to get in the ring with some unkown lad. Later he told me about his Golden Glove wins. So I guess it all balances out.

Right - you lost some teeth, but you won .68 blacks.

Seems like a fair trade to me

You could contact the director, and let him/her know that you weren't eligible for the game.

Because you mentioned that it was 299er, I assume that this was an ACBL game? If so, you really should contact the director, because you shouldn't get the masterpoints won in that game.

It shouldn't be that big of a deal. In the 299er games run at my local club, we sometimes have to get people with 300+ points to play (to fill out a movement), and then we run at an adjust (when necessary) so that they don't get points for this.

I did tell the director, and apologize profusely. To my partner also. Fortunately the masterpoints are small enough that I doubt anyone will get too worked up over it. It wasn't good, but of course not intentional.

As long as you told the director, you shouldn't worry about it at all.

One time, a very new player showed up at the 299er game with his pro, a grand life master with over 14,000 points. The club owner told me to let them play, but adjust the scores at the end so that they don't place (they're not allowed to win points for this). At the end of the session, there was no need for an adjust, as they were last!

I next saw the pro at our District Semi-finals for NAP, and asked him if he was there for flight C. :)

Masterpoints mean nothing. Instead you should consider if they are good players. I'd rather have a junior with 100 MP as partner than a LOL with 1000 MP.

Which is the corresponding word for stupid male players? I've seen a lot of them during my bridge life as well as really good female players!

I think these are just called "Idiots" or perhaps MLOLs (Male Little Old Ladies)

Don't worry, good female players (even old ones) are not described by "LOL".

Well, there is a nice story written by Harison-Gray,
were he tells about a tournament encounter with a
LOL.

After this encounter he gave a new translation for LOL
Laughing Old Lady.

And the story was that Harrison-Gray and his partner bid to a grand slam off the ace of trumps. Down 1. After the hand the LOL with the ace was asked why she hadn't doubled. Her reply was:

"You don't know Harrison-Gray, it seems. He would just redouble"!

Arend, you have not yet any specific status for me, sorry, since we did not yet play TOGETHER  We should try and then I offer you a rating *hehe*:
- friend (has very much credit and is free to play how good or bad as he likes, I will be true)
- expert (respect, respect)
- unlucky expert (still respect)
- rueful rabbit (can be some fun but I switch off ANY chat)
- futile Willie (we will play again but with a glass of wine or 2 or ..)
- postmortem King
- the squeezer (whatever this means  )
- .... to be completed....

By the way, I think we should blame it on Fred. Why "LOL" is not an option among "skill level" in one's profile is beyond me!

Only if Fred would phrase it:

"LOL or Worse".

Then I promise to be the first one to choose it
