Imps, EW pair has many international appearances to its credit

My 1 opening wouldn't be everyone's choice.

Pbbly, 3 instead of 3 is better.

The dbl shouldn't cost much if it makes as the contract reached at the other table won't most pbbly be game and it could substantially gain if it goes more than one down.

What do you expect dummy will look like?

I like the A of clubs but I have a hard time finding argument other than its very unlikely to cost a crucial tempo.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

CA.
Hope partner can play another to stop crossruff.
Maybe futile when dummy hits, but I have the lead still.

Warning: Asshole comments below:

1: Not my choice, but fine if that is partnership style.
Passing 1: Belongs in another forum.
Doubling 5: Not my choice. I don't expect it to gain substabcially, but as it is unlikely to give declarer any information, I'll live with it.

Lead: I voted small spade without thinking. Regrets.

If this one is not down in cashing tricks, we need to establish a trick in one of the side suits, before it can be discarded on winners in one of the red suits.

A stands out.

It will show me dummy. Hopefully, a heart-continuation or a switch will be obvious when I see dummy. And partner will still have clubs to stop declarer from running a side-suit, before he knocks out my ace.

I almost posted my analysis supporting a heart lead, then had to go for lunch, so Ole beat me to it

I am not commenting on the auction, other than to say I don't like it, and really don't like the double....what are we protecting? And thinking 5 is going for a number is lol.

The club A, a traditional 'let's look at dummy' lead is silly. We don't rate to be able to stop a crossruff...if partner gets in to lead a 2nd trump, they're already down, and the opps are idiots.

In the meantime, consider a layout like:

I'm not pretending this 'rates' to be the approximate layout, but it does seem like our best hope is a 4=3 heart fit and an inability for East to quickly dump his third heart before tackling trumps.

And the heart Ace still preserves some chance to find a switch if needed.

To me, it is the only reasonable choice, altho it may not be the winning choice in real life.

These were the 4 hands :

Imps

After my 10 lead, declarer escaped for 1 down.

An ace or a would hv lead to 3 down.

In the other room bidding went :

P P P 3 end (-1).
