4. K, x, x, A

Declarer thinking hearts are 5-3 from the bidding and the lead now concedes -1. The opponents accept. When declarer sees hearts are 4-4, the director is called.

-50 or +400?

-1 (it's not impossible to lose 2 tricks from there) unless he said he was losing 2 hearts.

bit lame of EW to enforce this in a speedball imo but such is life.

edit: misunderstod the OP re how declarer spotted hearts were 4-4. if he spots it before they start the next board and before the end of the round, he's fine.

Added the play to the diagram.

+400 I will legislate from the bench, if necessary.

"the Director shall cancel a concession [...] if a player has conceded a trick that could not be lost by any normal* play of the remaining cards."

* For the purposes of Laws 70 and 71, “normal” includes play that would be careless or inferior for the class of player involved.

Well East really should be playing A now. Is discarding a club or diamond from dummy now "careless or inferior"? Personally, I think it's downright bonkers. And with clubs 3-2 I can't see declarer accidentally losing another club trick later on, either. So +400 from me unless the players involved are at least 2 classes below me.

Agreed, I can't quite see how this should not be changed to +400 unless S only noticed after the correction period is over.

The director was immediately called once he saw the hand record.

+400.

If I had been East or West I would have told declarer he was making +400 at the time.

If play had continued East would have cashed the A and declarer would have realised his mistake two cards later.
