North's decision on whether or not to take the finesse appears to be influenced by whether he's afraid of a ruff in the event of an unsuccessful finesse.

Yes, the auctions were slightly different, but... I wonder if there is something specific that makes some Wests return and others continue .

The auctions give different information about which keycards South holds. Only the third table showed all the unseen key cards in South's hand. At the first table, South did the asking, so his holdings are uncertain. And at the second table, South gave an incorrect answer, so East was "known" to have one of them.

Do we really think GIB listens to the bidding rather than looking at the dummy and seeing that three keycards (instead of two) are held? I mean South is the dummy. This is a partially serious (both mostly not) question, as I don't play with robots often.

Oops, got confused over which hand was dummy.

Trying to juggle three auctions is too much for my puny brain.
