The explanation says 32 is a limit raise in , but that doesn't appear to be how East meant it. Why didn't East open 2 in the first place? How was West reading East's bidding when he doubled?

But it does appear that the info was helpful for North to bid 4Spades
Looking at the north and west hands what makes one take the plunge at the four level?
North expects partner to be short in hearts, West only thinks partner had heart support.
So i would think two diamonds tends to imply support it can be helpful for defense though that doesnt seem right cause east will be on lead. So in real life would you call the director?

Could also be with the diamond length he expects partner to have six hearts so is bidding his xx like xxx support.
