On the topic of VP scales - Assume that -

- Team A wins two matches by x IMPs each
- Team B wins one match by 2x IMPs and draws the other

Should Team A do better from these matches than Team B?

- If you think they should do equally well, then you may as well score the event by IMPs rather than VPs. You can still cap the IMP totals in some way.
- If you think Team A should do better than Team B, then you should use an appropriate VP scale. The WBF scale doesn't achieve this.

On the WBF 24 board scale -

- 15-15 is 7 imps wide
- 16-14 is 6 imps wide
- The next few are all 5 imps wide
- The last few increase in size again

This is roughly the equivalent of saying, "we will score the event by total IMPs, but the score from each match will be rounded to the nearest five". Bizarre IMO.

The EBU and ACBL both use scales that achieve my objective. The main difference between the two 20VP scales that they use is that, on the ACBL scale, you need more IMPs to obtain a maximum [72 as opposed to 51]. The EBU scale for 20-27 boards is good, but my favourite scale for a 24-28 board match is actually the ACBL 20 VP scale for 16-20 boards, which is a little flatter than the EBU one. 15-5 requires 19 IMPs, 20-0 requires 56 IMPs.

20VP and 25VP scales aren't intrinsically that different, normally you can just add/subtract 5VPs to get the equivalent result. The only difference is that 20-0 gets sub-divided into 25-5, 25-4, 25-3 etc. I believe this was traditionally expressed as 20-0, 20-minus 1, 20-minus 2, etc, before the 25 VP scale was devised. It would be easy to turn one of the suggested 20 VP scales into a 25 VP scale if this is preferred - simply remove a VP from the losing team for every further 10 IMPs they lose by.

Edit: Also, Team MickyB is going to, like, win the event. So there.

This team looks good on paper, but your success will mainly depend on how many Raki Jason (Jchiu) consumed at the day of match. :P

Edit: Just for curiosity, will the barometer be on ? And open to kibs ?

Im pretty sure I'm not on a team but I would say barometer should be off and kibs should be on. Barometer changes the game too much, don't get me wrong I love it for random fun matches on BBO since it makes it exciting, but it definitely changes how you play etc. Kibs should be on, usual argument if someone is going to cheat there are a million ways to do it, no reason to rob railbirds like myself the opportunity to see the hands ;)

Agree. However, I do think kibs should be silenced. Just to avoid comments from the peanut gallery getting misdirected and fouling a board.

Just out of curiosity, how many would be optimal?

agree 100%, also with awm that kibs should not be able to chat to table.

Free players should ask to join Csgibson or Hanoi5 teams.

Teams captains should start to ask their players when are they available. I expect to have definitive rules for this weekend. Hopefully my team will start sending challenge invitations to others teams next week.
What is the procedure to get a pinned thread (for match that are scheduled + for score and for teams that need ringers or substitute) also im planning to do a scoresheet with ascII caracter so that the score a post in the forum and not on a outside link, is there a better solution ?

Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

Barometer on only for the first half IMO, it doesn't have much affect until the last few boards.
