Here's a hand I just played in a robot rebate tournament (matchpoints). 7 players chose 5 different bids at this point:



Your options as mandated by the GIBberish bidding system:

2♠ Game try with unspecified shortness
2NT HSGT in spades
3♣/♦ HSGT in clubs/diamonds
3♠/4♣/4♦ Splinters
4♥ Signoff
4NT RCKB 0314

Depends what counts as a help-suit? In my regular partnership, where a spade honor or a spade doubleton count as "help", I would bid the spade HSGT, because I'm most worried about spade losers.

In GIBberish, a HSGT shows "2-11 8421 points", so any of the following holdings: Qxx(x), QJx(x), Kxx(x), KJx(x), KQx(x), KQJ(x), Axx(x), AJx(x), AQx(x), AQJ(x).

With a flesh and blood partner 2NT might be OK, esp. if you needed a board. With GIB, get thee to a nunnery.

Finding partner with KQxx of spades and the heart queen is most likely layout for slam, I'd bid 2NT.

With my regular partner we play that 2S, 3C and 3D are natural slam tries and 2NT and 3H are the only invites. Splinters show voids.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
