Is there someplace you think is better to play?
I would have bid 2♥ only because I can be sure of a minimum 7-card fit. Playing in 2♦ opposite a ♦ void is probably going to be the end of this partnership but luckily it wasn't so.
But then again, there's no winning action over 2♦ since no fit really exists.
Even if every finesse in sight works, there are 6 losers.

i would call going -50 when the opponents almost certainly have +90 a winning action, but as justin said, both N and S were ridiculous.

An auction I see a lot on BBO and rarely face to face is:
p - 1m - p - 1M
2m/M
Let's see, he can't open the bidding at the one level or preempt, but after both opponents bid and partner passes, now he is good enough to jump in with a 2-level overcall, regardless of vulnerability. Usually he holds a five card suit here, a crummy one about half the time.

2D - not everybody cup of coffee, but I would make the bid.
Playing against a weak NT, you try to fight for the partial.
But not many agree with this view.
Pass is not an option, North could be stronger, and the cards
South happens to hold in the majors may all North needs for game.
With kind regards

As for the 2♦ bid showing majors, all I can say is that the bidder had the majors.

It is the pass that baffled me, partner insisted it was normal playing a 4-4 style.

I actually meant to say "minimum of" 6 losers, and there are very likely will be more than that. 6 requires KQ♥ with LHO, J♣ with RHO, and diamonds 3-3; or, a misdefense (getting A♠ knocked out early before heart tricks are established). Somewhere around 10% without help from the defenders.

I remain mystified by how often I see this. Some of it is due to the fact that in "average" BBO play, bad overcalls are rarely punished. LOL a few weeks ago, after P-1♦-P-1♥by me and then 2♣ by LHO I passed PD's supX with a flat 13 count, noting that LHO could never stay out of our auctions and we took them for 1400 with no slam possible. LHO had QT8xx in ♣ and 8 other scattered HCP and they were Red to our White.
