Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

I would bid 4. LHO very likely will double if I don't. But if LHO is timid I suppose you could pass and hope to buy it.

Depends...

Does your partner bid disciplined in 3rd/4th seat and/or in RED?

Based on the bidding you can assume this is a split deck.

I value your hand as having 5 losers or even 6.

I see no real science to this hand...don't know the odds enough to even try to guess...

Your guess is as good as mine...lol

I will guess that partner has 9 HCP and a single in clubs...

AQxxxxx in S
Kxx in H
xx in D
x in C

If I am right...I am going to Vegas.

I've tried sneeky passes in situations like this but they always worked out sneekily badly. Somehow partner always has more than I expect, perhaps I should have expected this when both opponents pass with 2 spades combined.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

It depends who you are playing with.
With one of my partners I would pass and hope it's only down 3 :)

If it's IMPs/Teams, 4 seems to be a no-brainer. If it's MP pairs, will need to consult the farmers' handbook B-)

4. If partner has three diamonds and the heart hook works, we'll actually make it. There's some other possibilities too. Otherwise, I will tell my partners we got pushed there.

If the heart hook is wrong, clearly the opponents can make something, and they might bid it if I pass.

Opps are strangely quiet, so it's odds-on pard has a heavy pree.

If my partner is traditional ie 2 short at this Vul then I have 2 tricks plus a fair chance that either my Q is a trick, or one of the minor Jacks is worth something. Maybe pards has 3 and he can ruff one for his 10th. Just too many ways 4 can be right and the reward is worth the risk.

At other vunerabilities esp white V red I'd think about passing though at white V red I'd probably be opening so no problem for me :-)

NAE: I would have opened but 4S seems clear now, how derranged is your partner? If he's disciplined you have two tricks and its worth a punt at IMPs.
