What does X of 3!s show here?
Does this X exist, or should I just pass in tempo?

Totally random game, pd claiming to be exp. Nothing alerted by opps.

It may be less clear when you double their third suit at a lower level but here it is just lead-directing, says nothing about clubs.

This sounds about right. Partner is some "expert" if he thinks 5C is a good bid here.

The issue was not that he thought 5c was a good bid. He thought my x invited him to compete/preempt. He did not take it as lead directing.

Since I don't remember ever making a similar x before, and there were no alerts from opps for the meaning of 3s, I wasn't sure it is indeed lead directing. I didn't think it could be takeout either, but maybe i shd just pass instead.

The 3S bid is a probe trying for 3NT or a cue bid. I like double, if you left hand opponent bids 3NT and you did not double, you are not getting a S lead are you.

Double shows spades, it could not possibly show anything else.

Since Phil has recently named me QC of the expert forum, I suggest moving this thread to the A/I forum.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

5 hahah. A brief moment of thought is adequate for any adv+ player to realize that a club one suiter or a black two suiter could have acted the previous round. Another page in the BBO expert joke book.

your p failed to appreciate you did not x after 2d. Your subsequent 3s X is
primarily lead direction not a sudden change of heart. Keep up the good work.
Note that your x might indeed keep the opps out of 3n (just hope u can set 3s
if they leave it). There is no guarantee you p has any values whatsoever.
