3C = weak

Love All, IMPs (Swiss Teams).

You play Acol with weak twos. You play weak jump overcalls at this vulnerability and elect to overcall 3. RHO's double is for take-out. What do you do now? Please vote.

I pass. P didn't open so can only have either 5 spades or i guess longer spades and a very weak hand, but either way i'm reluctant to bid again. Yes we have a max WJO especially with p's bid, but in offense the KH will be next to useless whereas it could score a trick in defence. They might well have underbid and i'm reluctant to push them into either X'ing 4S or going to game somewhere on the imo quite unlikely chance that 4S is on?

I would've raised to 4 immediately over the double, but I'll pass now. I don't think it makes and improving -130 (or +50) to -100 isn't worth the hassle.

This was my view, don't take the last guess, if you're going to bid 4 (and I am) then do it a round earlier.

I voted pass because I think that if I wanted to bid 4 I would have done so before.

But I am not really scared of pushing them to the 5-level. K will probably give us a trick on defense. Even so, it looks like someone can make something at the 4-level. So after all I think 4 is right.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Whether to bid 4S over 4H is tougher. Here I pass and hope ops missed game in 4H.

*Tougher because its hard to know exactly what partner is up to. Probably 5-6 spades without opening strength or preemptive strength and less than 2 clubs.

I expect something like JTxxxx xxx Axx x

IMHO, 4C would have been interesting...

But, more importantly, where is partner getting 3S from?

I would like bid 4.
Because partner has nearly open value, and I have high value for preempt.

Partner did not open so will not have a weak 2S.
Partner is not mad so will not be weaker than a weak 2S.
Partner is not mad so will have some tolerance for a 4C contract.
Therefore partner has 5 good spades and either good doubleton support for clubs but more likely 3. So most likely 5323 distribution and 10 or a poor 11 points. Possibly AQxxx, xxx, xx, KJx. With this layout 4S is odds on and 5D is unlikely to make. So 4S it is. Why didnt I raise to 4S immediately? Maybe I was hoping that the take out double would be passed.

I do not think a hand that comes from pass, will have anything less than 3 card clubs in this auction to bid 3

To me 3 is club raise with spades. Not a "spade bid with tolerance"
