IMP's Teams

LHO opens 1NT 15-17 and RHO transfers to H.
You have following agreements (actually you have these agreements after "1NT-(2x;transfer)", but can assume the same here):
- DBL is for
- 2 is a good TO
The rest is natural (No agreement about 3)

What is your plan with this hand?

cannot not imagine any easy way to get us to 6 so will just settle for a
simple

4s

bid knowing that spades cannot break too radically and will be a ton happier
if I have to x 5h (letting p know I think I can set it so they will not take an
unnecessary sac) than I would be guessing over 4h and giving the opps all
of their options.

It takes very little from p to make 4s and that seems by far the best risk
vs reward path to take.

4S. Very unlikely pard has the goodies you need for 6, so just bid what you've got.

Question:

What's the difference between 1N-P-2-3 and 1N-P-2-P-2-P-P-3 ? same with 4 ?

If opener breaks the transfer, partner has a stiff/void heart and I might consider punting higher, that's why I might consider passing.

How often will we reach p?
How many looser need p to cover?

I am going plus.

What would 2 and 3 by S have shown? If he had two ways to show s available (or 3 wide ranging), I'll try 2 followed by minimum bid.

That gives both P and opps the chance to tell me if I can make 4.

Pass, then dbl and jump in spades. Not driving to game all by myself.

Still, if this strategy might confuse pard, oh well.. so be it: 4S.

North did bid 2 and that was passed around.
South had:

2 made +3; At the other table East didn't open 1NT with a bad 15 count and opps reached 4, saying they would also bid 4 after a 1NT opening.

4S. Even thinking about more is a huge overbid.

About the replies:
- Bidding 4 because 6 will be too difficult to find: 6 looks very optimistic, and 4 will need something from partner. At the other hand a good card from South can be enough, even as little as Q. So, bidding 2 as we did cannot be ok.
- Bidding 3 would be preemptive for us, but would still be a good hand being vulnerable. Passing first and then bidding 3 should be a good hand. A preempt is not longer possible.
- Bidding 2 versus passing first and then bidding 2: Here passing first followed by 2 is balancing and the passing first route shows the weaker hand (counting on something with partner).
- Passing first, then DBL 2 (balancing TO) and then bidding 3: If partner did bid 2 then I think it is weaker then pass first and bid 3. If partner did bid 3 then I think it is stronger then pass first and bid 3.

I like the Pass first and then bid 3 (or pass, then DBL, then 3) the most, but will south raise with the unsure value of HK?

2H for OPer is a strong takeout. 2H then 3S seems obvious in the given structure.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Why do you like not bidding game if you think south might not even raise on this where game is just cold? Heck you could change the king of hearts into a low one and give south the ten of clubs and game is fine (xxx xx xxxxx Txx). Would partner bid game on that? Not that game is cold opposite that but I would like to be there, they might not start by tapping you and if they do you might survive it.

Anyways, that's not exactly a special hand and game is good. If he has a little more, he will still won't be bidding game by himself, yet you want to be there. On this hand he had the power house of the HK and the worst club holding and game is cold, you are unsure if your preferred sequence will get him to bid game, yet you are saying you like routes that involve not just bidding game. Why?

Because I'm not WC, therefore I'm not always bidding to the correct level :)
Would you bid directly 4[spades with North hand?
Do you think South should raise after Pass...3[spades]?
