Dumb questions

When a game is completed a points awarded is put on the screen. What do they mean and how are they calculated.

I have searched the various help categories but can't find anything.

The points will be in IMPs (International Match Points) or matchpoints.

If the former, your score will be compared with that of all the other pairs. The average difference will be converted to IMPs according to a table that is available online here.

So, for example, if you scored +200 on a board and every other competitor in your direction scored +100, you would be awarded 3IMPs. Or 3IMPs X the number of competitors. It is essentially the same in the end.

If the competition is Matchpoints, the amount of the difference in score does not matter; all that matters is how many of the other pairs sitting your direction that you beat (earned a higher score than). If you scored +100, it doesn't matter whether your competition scored +90 or -1100. You will get a point for each score lower than yours, and 1/2 point for every score you tie. In England 2 points is used for a win and 1 for a tie. It makes no difference.

In Matchpoints your score will probably be expressed as a percentage, which will be the points you scored as above divided by the score you would have received had you beaten all the pairs.

The points are for both partners.

Fixed your post. What you described is butler. BBO uses cross-IMPs.
