Barmar owned it, cherdano inherited some of my good work and came second, flavoneus (my husband) finished 3rd.
Jlall, rogerclee and kfay also played which was great IMHO, we don't get them every day.

Yeah I think indy is way better. It's like a forum get together, it's random but I don't think the point is a serious bridge competition as much as playing with people you talk with on the forum.

Don't know if I'd enforce this. I'm thinking pairs to attract those who prefer established partnerships (eg. foobar-straube), if they don't care they'd play the indy anyway.
Good part of making it pairs is it's howell so everyone plays everyone - that's the upside IMO
Also, if anyone wants to play with bot send me a PM and I'll give you 25 cents to rent robot, if u don't have a BB$ account or don't feel like spending on this.

It's just a typical case of "solving Schrodinger's equation by day, can't add 2+1 together at the bridge table." It's an all-too-common phenomenon but just awful to know it applies to myself. We're in 5♠, we have two tricks, we need one more, if you have the ace of spades or king of clubs you will get it, if you have the ♦A then we need to get it now. It's actually simpler than I make it out to be here but whatever. argh! 'lalalala I refuse to think my partner (may have) signalled for a club so I'm gonna play a club allalalalala let's not count any points or tricks let's not look at the contract or form of scoring lalalala club woo hoo.' There that feels better. I have plenty of excuses too like having commentated 19 boards before but to be honest I can totally see myself doing the same exact thing at the table. This summer I went down in 5♣ in teams because I actually played in a line that was supposed to make 6 (although there was a much better one for 6 but that's beside the point), i.e. I refused to count to 2 (losers) and stopped at 1. This is less than basic stuff that I need to figure out. Oh well. I guess what I'm saying is "sorry kuhchung for board 20!!!!"
edit: and clee made a killer lead in 19, nothing you can do about that.

Sure, I don't have a strong preference either way. I thought IMPs was less random in small games TBH, but I was probably wrong

A spade lead is not really killing, assuming they go spade spade spade you will backdoor into the make even with a club misguess since the HA is on your left and diamonds come in. RHO has no entry to the long spade. Conversely if you judge (or see) that LHO has the long spade, you might make if RHO has the long club and the HA and you misguess. Of course LHO can always shift to a heart but then you have not lost anything, you just need to pick up the clubs. Make them find that play first.
You don't really need to see all of this to duck the spade, it should just be a matter of technique. A lot of well played hands arise from just doing technical things to begin with without having a concrete reason other than that it won't cost. This is similar to the idea in chess that tactics arise from already good positions.
Against my partner they led a heart, in practice that was killing since now you have to guess clubs to make and there is no reason to do so.
The hand roughly for anyone who cares:
JT
xx
ATx
A98xxx
Axxx
Kx
KQ9x
KJx
1N-3N SK lead, RHO encouraging.
