At a recent bridge class I attended, the teacher stated that 2-Way NMF and 2-Way Checkback were different. But he did not elaborate.

Eliminating XYZ (since that was not part of the discussion) please explain the difference. Is one superior?

Thanks! :)

I assume your teacher has learned that one includes a relay to 2 and the other not.

I would expect that as well - which is why you discuss more than "2-way CB?" with partners.

I played 2 ART INV (F2NT), 2 ART GF back east, but both asked about major length or describe your hand.
I never played 2 forces 2 before taking on full XYNT (mostly because I didn't understand what was going on), but I do know several who did.

Isn't x, y, z better than all checkback?

I believe so. But as always, it's the continuations that are the issue (for instance, are you *sure* you are on the same page about 1x-1y; 1z-2NT?); and one screwup will cost you 3 or 4 betters, and you get 3 or 4 betters only after 12 or 15 uses, which is probably 150-200 hands. So, are you and partner that sure you're on the same page all the way across?
