It appears that Turkey is moving further away from democracy. What does this mean for the future?

Before the UK left the European Union (EU), the EU was considering allowing Turkey to become a member of the EU. That probably won't happen now, I feel. Turkey is a beautiful country - I have holidayed there on a few occasions - and its citizens are very pleasant, but it borders one of the most troubled areas of the world.

If democracy is whittled away from its people after the recent election, it's just going to end up, I personally feel, like many of the countries in the Middle East and Africa, with more bloodshed and dissatisfaction generally. And that will be sad.
