I voted 2H (showing spades and diamonds for me after we took the advice of partnership bidding at bridge). I'm right on the minimum edge for it in terms of power, but I have good shape.

Thanks for the poll responses thus far. 3 votes thus far for Michaels. I'm surprised that folks aren't concerned about losing control. Let's say spades are trump (most often partner is going to pick them, right?)and it goes heart, heart, heart, ruff. I think you need partner to have a lot of trump support or other help in order to establish diamonds.

Life is tough.

One cannot cater to this possibility in choosing the initial bid. You need to let partner know the nature of your hand as quickly as possible so that he can make an informed decision of the trick taking potential of the hand and determine the best trump suit (or no trump). Partner knows I am short in hearts. All I can do is try to give him information. What he does with that information is up to him.

If your contention is that you should bid diamonds first followed by spades (or not even bid the spades), I think you are being foolhardy.
